Macaya Gallery is pleased to present our latest show, “Cuban Art Revolution”, featuring the painter Josignacio.

New work will be presented as well as a retrospective on the innovative “plastic paint medium” technique.

Josignacio sets himself apart by reaching highest auction results* by a living Cuban artist.

Within the retrospective segment, Josignacio is going to show to the public for the first time in his 30 year career artwork that he states: “were never intended to be seen by anyone, except me. I’m excited to reveal them to the public. Life is about timing. And now is the time!”

This unique show at Macaya Gallery in Wynwood, adjacent to the Miami Design District, includes a retrospective of pieces dating from 1984 to present day, promising to be one of the most important events in Miami’s art scene. A pure scent of “Cuban flavor,” we will have a live performance from musician Luis Bofill Quartet and a demonstration from Alejandro Marquina, “the cigar master roller”.

Plastic Paint Medium is a painting technique created by Artist Josignacio in Havana City, Cuba in 1984; this technique consists of the use of epoxy resins as an agglutinating medium and pigments as colorants, resulting in a real plastic finish with a new visual effect. With conventional materials it is almost impossible to obtain such a translucent depth with reflective qualities that appear almost three dimensional. Its versatility puts this medium in a stand alone status.

*“The Three Wisest Monkeys” 48 x 96 in., plastic paint medium on wood executed in 1991, sells at hammer price of $720,000 US Dollars at Pangaea Auctions House from Nevada, surpassing the $630,000 “Sweet Adagio in Solo Guitar” 96 x 48 inches dated 1994 also plastic paint medium on wood, according to Artprice®.
